Family will mark Christmas early as mum given two weeks to live

A 37-year-old mum of three is marking Christmas early, with Bonfire Night on the same day, after doctors told her she has two weeks to live.

Sara McLaughlin has been fighting breast cancer for three years and this month doctors told her she isn't expected to survive into October.

The family has decided Sarah would celebrate this year's Christmas with them. She said: "We are going to have Christmas morning with presents, followed by Christmas dinner and then in the evening we are going to have bonfire night too."

Sara, from Greater Manchester, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 after finding out that her family carried the BRCA1 gene, reports the Manchester Evening News .

Extensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy proved ineffective and Sara was told in 2017 that her cancer was spreading, and was terminal.

On September 6 Sara visited hospital with a sharp pain in her neck and doctors found cancer wrapped around her jugular vein - saying she would likely have a fortnight left.

"It's just a ticking time bomb now," Sara said. "To be honest, I am more scared for my kids than myself. I will take any pain the cancer throws at me but the worst bit was telling the kids.

"I am still doing radiotherapy just to try and put it off and my daughter keeps asking me whether it's going to make it go away."

"I have to explain that's not going to happen," she added.

Sara currently is at home with her three children aged 19, 11 and four and her long-term partner Ste.

In a double blow for the family, Sara's mother has also been diagnosed with terminal cancer, having also had breast cancer due to the BRCA1 gene.

"I just want to make as many memories with the children as I can," she said.

"They know we are bringing it forward and of course they'll still celebrate on Christmas Day, but sadly I won't be here."

Sara's close friends have set up a  gofundme  page to help contribute to the family with any ongoing financial support they may need.

Her best friend, Carly Bickerdyke wrote: "Sara has been given weeks to live, after fighting for so long, with young children being left behind.

"My friend doesn't want to die, she is young and doesn't want to leave her kids behind as she loves them too much.

"Christmas is coming and she won't be here so I'm raising money not just for toys or Christmas, but for her partner and kids to take the pressure off at such a horrible time."
