Family to be temporarily re-homed after house fire destroys bedroom

A fire that ripped through a bedroom in a family home is under investigation by firefighters.

A family returned to their home in Ripley Street, just off Tonge Moor Road in Bolton, to find their smoke alarms sounding and a fire raging inside their home.

Firefighters rushed to the scene at around 1.25pm on Monday afternoon and managed to contain the fire to the bedroom, where it is believed the blaze began.

The 13 firefighters from Bolton Central and Bolton North fire stations were at the scene until around 3.15pm. There were no people injured or taken to hospital, but the family will have to be temporarily re-homed as the clean up operation begins, say firefighters.

Watch manager Hodson, from Bolton North fire station, told the Manchester Evening News : "We arrived at around 1.25 pm and arrived back at the station at around 3.15pm.

"It was a bedroom fire. Three crews were in attendance, 13 firefighters.

"No ambulance was needed as the family were not in the house at the time. They came back to the house to their smoke alarms going off.

"The fire was contained to the bedroom but there is smoke damage on the first floor. A lot of properties have a lot of plastic in them now and it gets covered in black soot when there is a fire. It will be a big clean up job.

"They will be re-homed temporarily."

The cause of the fire is now under investigation, says the watch manager.
