Family storm out of Pontins and cut holiday short after 'shocking' discovery in cabin

A family cut short a holiday in Pontins over the 'shocking' conditions of their cabin.

Andrew Hansell said his family stormed out of their cabin at the Prestatyn Sands holiday park after just one night - as Mirror Online reports.

The family of five had travelled to the North Wales resort from Scotland and were forced to leave after the unbearable smell in their cabin.

He said: "It was just shocking. We were greeted by a deep and ingrained stench of cigarette smoke.

"As non-smokers this was completely unacceptable. Upon further inspection the apartment was absolutely filthy with ingrained dirt, stained mattresses, an unhygienic bathroom and foodstuffs littered throughout the apartment."

"The apartment was extremely dated with worn out furniture and beds that had clearly been in-situ for many years."

The programme manager complained to the reception and was eventually given another room - but he says this was no better.

He continued: "Upon entering the second apartment there was an immediate stench of damp, which we reported to accommodation services immediately.

"The apartment was also extremely dirty, and once again all furniture, beds and mattresses were extremely dated.

"There was mould on some of the walls and the floors were uneven like they had subsided."

On their insistence, a cleaner came and went to work on the cabin, but soon the damp stench overpowered the smell of bleach.

Andrew complained that the accommodation blocks at the North Wales Pontins looked "more like a prison than a holiday camp" - but tried to make the best of their situation by going to the shops to buy cleaning products.

However, the family say this was not enough to salvage the room and they swiftly departed back to their home in Hampshire the next morning.

He said: "Pontins had an obligation to provide us with hygienic, habitable accommodation of a reasonable standard, which it failed to achieve with three attempts, and as a result we had no option but to depart."

More than three weeks on he remains waiting for a response to his complaint and refund request.

Pontins did not respond to The Mirror's request for comment.
