The family of a young man who died after being rescued from the sea at Dalkey has opened a fund to help pay for his funeral.
Dareen Fontanilla died in Beaumont Hospital soon after he was airlifted from the water at Vico Road last Thursday.
Dareen, who was in his 20s, was winched into the Rescue 116 helicopter but despite best efforts by hospital staff, the Irish Coast Guard, Dun Laoghaire RNLI, Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service they were unable to save him.
Now his family who said they are "still under shock" have asked for help in paying for his funeral service with more than €4,000 of the €7,000 goal raised by the kindhearted public.
In a short message on the GoFundMe page, the family said: "Hi everyone we are raising funds to help us for the funeral expenses of Dareen Fontanilla who died of drowning incident in Dalkey. We are all still under shock and we are not prepared for this especially financial matters. We will be very grateful for any help you could give us. The Lord almighty will be the one to bless each and everyone of you. Thank you and God bless."
A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live last week: "Gardaí and emergency services attended an incident at a beach near Dalkey yesterday, Thursday 3rd June 2021.
"A man in his 20s was taken from the water shortly before 4pm after getting into difficulty swimming.
"His was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he later passed."
