Family slammed for selling dog just because they bought a new sofa

Most people would say their dog is a cherished member of the family and nothing would entice them to separate from them.

But a dad in Norwich put his six-year-old Jack Russell up for sale simply because he was buying a new sofa.

And the move has been blasted by lots of people on social media.

A man named Nigel recently placed an advert, which has been removed now, to sell his dog on Gumtree.

The pet, which the family have had since she was just a puppy, apparently has to go because they've just had their house refurbished and don't want her to mess up the new furniture.

Can you identify these Bristol pubs without seeing their signs?

A Twitter user named Jon spotted the ad and shared it incredulously on social media.

The full post reads: "We have a Jack Russell b**** for sale, we have had since she was a pup and she is now six-years-old.

"Due to no fault of her own we have to let her go. We have totally refurbished our house and we are nearly ready for our new sofas which are really expensive and leather and I can't take this risk of her getting onto the new furniture.

"She loves walks and is really intelligent but Jack Russells do get excited if they see squirrels or rats or even Rottweilers."

The ad goes on to say that the dog, named Elsie, is very affectionate and would be ideal for an older couple.

More than 1,300 people have liked Jon's Tweet, with over 300 people sharing their outrage over the advert in the comments.

One person wrote: "Can't believe you would get rid of a dog you have had for six years because you are getting a new sofa and happily advertise that fact. Surely if you loved your pet they come before a sofa what heartless people they are poor wee dog replaced by material goods."

Another wrote: "The list of things I'd give up before I gave up my dog are too long to mention. Christ, I don't even go on holiday unless I can take him with me."

A third added: "Absolutely disgraceful. My furniture is all old and knackered but as long as the dog finds it comfy it's grand. People become so blinded by consumerism and stuff that they can't see what's important."
