Family slam 'disgraceful' Pontins after 'finding sanitary pad and dust in chalet'

A family of four claim they found a sanitary pad, food wrappers and “months worth of dust” in a supposedly Covid-secure chalet at a holiday camp.

Mum-of-two Leigh Aldred, from Manchester said she was left disgusted by the state of their room at Prestatyn’s Pontins Sands holiday resort, North Wales Live reports.

Her partner Josh Kershaw also called the resort a “disgrace” and claimed the resort shouldn't be open.

The couple booked a three-night stay on Friday August 28 and say they waited three hours before getting the keys to their chalet.

When they were finally in the chalet, Leigh moved a wardrobe to make room for their four-month old son’s cot and discovered the appalling mess, they claim.

“It was so bad we looked for rooms at the Premier Inn but they were all booked. So we only stayed there to sleep, and we stayed out of the camp as much as we could," the mum siad.

After complaining to “horrified” staff on Friday night and being promised a cleaner would be sent up immediately, it allegedly took three more complaints before a cleaner came - more than 24 hours after they arrived.

Leigh said: “I wasn’t expecting much, I’d seen the reviews, but with them being closed for so long and the coronavirus, I thought it would at least be clean.

“It was disgusting, the staff were useless and while the camp had social distancing measures and sanitising stations they were all out and not refilled even after it was reported.

“Every chalet had a sanitised sticker on the door when it had been deep cleaned - thankfully we bought stuff with us because it was disgusting.”

Josh said he would never stay at the holiday camp again.

“I only stayed here at night for my children, as they were excited and too young to understand. We haven’t spent any time at the resort, only to sleep.” He said.

“This place is a disgrace and shouldn’t be open.”

Pontins have been contacted by Mirror Online and North Wales Live for comment.
