Family share photo of son stabbed in street as police investigation continues in Toxteth

The family of a 29-year-old stabbed to death in the middle of a Toxteth street have released a touching photo of him as detectives continue to investigate the broad daylight attack.

Hassan Ahmed Mohamoud was brutally knifed in the neck  on Bentley Road at around 1pm on Thursday.

The street has remained closed in the days following the killing, with a forensic tent erected and Matrix teams seen searching the area - looking in wheelie bins and raking the street grids.

Officers were also seen carrying out searches with police dogs at an address on nearby Croxteth Road on Sunday morning - but it is unclear whether this was linked to the investigation.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder on Friday night and he remains in custody this morning for further questioning.

As the investigation into Hassan's death continues, his family have shared a photo of the Somalian-born Toxteth man, who was described as "lovely kid who always had a broad smile."

A source in the community claimed Hassan knew his attacker, and thought the killer simply wanted a chat before he was fatally knifed.

One local said: "The  lad who got stabbed  had no apparent dispute with the man who killed him.

Traumatised 'skull mask gang' victims convinced they would die or be raped

"It was a total surprise to him.

"They guy called him over... the two knew each other really well.

"They used to hang around with each other all the time.

"Hassan thought they were having just a little talk. The attack came out of the blue."

Police are continuing to appeal to anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward and tell them what they know.
