Family search after finding pic of soldier taken in Dublin over a century ago

A woman living in the UK is on the search for help from people that could be living in Dublin after receiving a picture taken over a century ago.

Sue Higginbottom, nee Rawle, got in touch with Dublin Live after a family member uncovered a picture of a soldier sent a family member's home in Porlock, Somerset.

According to Sue, the message with the picture reads: "To Mr and Mrs Rawle from an old friend signed by E Harfur or E Harpur."

She told Dublin Live: "My sister recently found the photo with some other family photos and paperwork. We are pretty sure the soldier isn't a relation of ours. It seems to have been sent to either my grand parents or great grand parents.

"My father and Grandfather both worked with horses and lived in Porlock, Somerset so maybe the soldier was in a regiment working with horses. The photo was probably taken in World War One and my father wasn't born until 1927 so it couldn't be him.

"As the photographer was based in Dublin maybe the soldier came from there and could have been related to an E Harfur or E Harpur the name on the back of the photo. That's all the info I have so far."

The picture of the soldier is believed to have been taken during World War I (1914-1918) and was taken at Henry L Lloyd's Stickybacks on Grafton Street (Sue Higginbottom)

She is now hoping to get in touch with anyone who may have been related to the soldier or who has any more information about the picture.

The amazing black and white picture shows the soldier dressed in full uniform, posing with their hat and what appears to be a swagger stick.

On the back, the picture says it was taken by "H L Lloyd, Mr Stickyback, Grafton Street, Dublin".

According to Stickybacks.uk archive, Henry L Lloyd operated at 36 Grafton Street, Dublin, then 30 and 34 Grafton Street between 1910 and 1939.
