Family say they are 'living in a nightmare' after death of Terry Smith in tower block

The family of a man who died this week within a flat in Motherwell have paid tribute to him.

Police Scotland can now also confirm the name of the man is 30-year-old Terry Smith.

Around 4.10am on Tuesday, officers received a report of a man who had suffered serious injuries within a flat in Doonside Tower and he died at the scene.

Terry’s family said: “We feel like we are living in a nightmare that we can’t wake up from. Terry was a loving son, brother, dad, fiancé, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend. His death has left a massive gap in our hearts that nothing will be able to replace. We would like to thank family and friends for their overwhelming support.

“We want justice for Terry. It will never bring him back but we wouldn’t wish another family to go through what we are going through.”

Police Scotland would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information so far. Anyone else with information should contact Wishaw CID on 101 quoting incident number 408 of 13 August 2019.

Two men have been charged in connection with the death of Terry Smith.  A 21-year-old and a 19-year-old are due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today (Thursday, August 15).
