Family's tribute to 'much-loved' teenager who died after being hit by car near Cardiff Airport

A 19-year-old man who died after being hit by a car near Cardiff Airport has been described as a "much loved son and friend."

Mason Richardson, from Boverton, Llantwit Major, died after being hit by a car on the A4226 in Barry near Cardiff Airport.

The incident, in which Mr Richardson was a pedestrian, happened in the early hours of Saturday, February 29.

His family said he was "a much loved and liked character".

In a statement issued through South Wales Police, they expressed their gratitude to those who have sent messages of sympathy to them.

It said: "The family of Mason Richardson, aged 19, wish to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to those who have sent messages of sympathy and floral tributes during this difficult time.

“Mason was a much loved son and friend who was loved and liked by many, which is evident through the amount of messages being sent.

They added: “A much loved and liked character from the Llantwit Major area he will be sorely missed by his loving parents and friends alike.

"Rest in peace Mason."

South Wales Police are appealing for information, especially those who may have witnessed a blue coloured Citreon C1 or who saw two pedestrians walking in the area between 2am and 2.30am on Saturday.

Anyone with information or who may have dash camera footage is urged to call police on 101 quoting occurrence 2000074049.
