Family's tribute to loving father after death following flat fire

The family of a man who died following a fire have paid tribute to him, describing him as “kind-hearted and someone that would do anything for anyone.”

Adrian Flood, 43, was taken to hospital following a fire at his flat in Glanfelin, Hawthorn in Pontypridd on Wednesday, April 8. Sadly, he died as a result on Saturday, April 11.

“He was a very dedicated family man who adored his two sons,” said Gemma Ware, who had been married to Mr Flood.

The couple had two sons together, Brandon, 19, and Benjamin, 17, and met when they were teenagers in their hometown of Beddau. Although they were divorced at the time of the incident, Ms Ware said that the pair were still together.

She added: “I’ve known Adrian all my life. We started dating when I was 14 and Adrian was 17."

Due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, his family were not able to visit Mr Flood during his time in hospital.

His sister, Leann Fry, said: “I had to say goodbye to my brother over the phone.”

Ms Fry described her close bond with her brother, and explained that the pair spoke “every single day, without fail.”

Describing her brother, she added: “He was extremely funny. I always said he should have been a comedian.”

The family said that Mr Flood suffered from mental illness.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire at his home at 8:43pm.

The family has been informed that there will be an inquest into the incident, and have expressed their desire to find out exactly what happened to cause the fire which led to Mr Flood’s death.

Ms Fry added: “He was wonderful and funny. I’ve never known anyone with a bad word to say about my brother. People who have written messages have said, ‘oh no, not Adrian, he was one of the best.’”
