Bhubaneswar: The bodies of four members of an Odia family who died in a plane crash in Nepal on Sunday would be cremated in Kathmandu itself, after family members of Ashok Kumar Tripathy gave consent for the same.
Ashok (50), along with his wife Vaibhavi and children Ritika (daughter) and Dhanush (son), were on board the ill-fated plane which went missing on Sunday.
On Tuesday, all the 22 bodies, including that of Ashok's family, were retrieved from the crash site.
Ashok's cousin Kanan Tripathy, who lives in Sonepur, the district headquarters town of Subarnapur in western Odisha, told TOI that the family members decided the bodies be cremated in Kathmandu, instead of bringing them home.
"Ashok's twin brother Rajen (a software engineer in Pune), went to Kathmandu along with one of his nephews. On Tuesday, Rajen identified the bodies. The senior members of the family jointly decided that cremation will be done in Kathmandu. Since it is a very cumbersome process to bring the bodies home, we all decided to conduct the final rites in Nepal," Kanan told TOI over phone.
Kanan stated that the bodies were brought to Kathmandu from the crash site and kept at a morgue in a hospital there.
Quoting Rajen, who is in Kathmandu, Kanan said the strong wind could have played a role in the crash.
