A family narrowly escaped death after a devastating fire broke out as they slept.
Just days after Christmas the Delea family were sleeping soundly in their beds at their Cork home when the blaze began.
The fire broke out as Carol’s son Richard was charging his electric golf trolley in the house, where he lives with his mother and three siblings. It burst into flames after making a “hissing and cracking” noise.
“I was charging it in the house and I went to sleep,” Richard told RedFM today, “It was in my bedroom,”
After waking up in the night and noticing the battery was getting hot, “the next thing you know there’s a flame bursting from it.”

Richard threw the trolley out of the house, however a fire had already broken out and smoke was engulfing the home, as other members of the family slept.
“I had to take my mother down the stairs, she was very shook, it was 3 AM at this stage
“She could see the flames and the smoke, they were all very scared.”

Donations have flooded in to support the Cork family. Little Island Community Association has organised a GoFund me fundraiser, which has raised over €15,000 so far, to help Carol redo her family home.
