Family's heartbreaking tribute to 18-year-old son killed in Tanfield crash

A heartbroken dad has paid tribute to his “kind, loving and caring” teenage son who died in a car crash.

Andrew Rowlands was a passenger in the car when it crashed on Barcusclose Lane, Tanfield, near Stanley shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday.

The 18-year-old, of Consett, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, with serious injuries but sadly he was pronounced dead a short time later.

His father John said: “Andrew was an honest, true gentleman who would always put other people’s needs before his own and would never have seen anyone stuck.

“He was a kind, loving and caring individual who brought warmth and laughter wherever he went and always wanted to give and never take.”

The driver and a second passenger suffered minor injuries in the one vehicle crash.

The road was closed for a short time while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

Witnesses are asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 232 of June 18.
