Family's heartbreak as they mark one year since mum went missing

Today marks the one year anniversary since Carol Mighall was last seen by her family.

Carol, 52, from Tranmere, was last seen on Monday, January 4, 2021 in Rodney Street, Birkenhead.

Today - a year on from her disappearance - Merseyside Police renewed its appeal for help in finding the mum-of-five.

Police said they have received numerous reports since the grandmother-of-nine was last seen - with up to 22 reported last January alone - but none of these have led to anything definite.

On the day she disappeared, Carol was seen on CCTV in a convenience store on the corner of Rodney Street near the centre of Birkenhead.

The now 52-year-old bought a litre bottle of vodka and 20 cigarettes and then headed in the direction of Birkenhead Central Station.

Two days after she was seen on CCTV, Carol was also spotted on cameras in another store on Borough Road.

Back in September, an attempt was made to use a bank card that she took with her which police investigated, however no further updates regarding this were given.

Previously speaking to the ECHO, Carol’s sister Karen Mighall said: “We just want you to come back home now.

"Or at least let us know that your safe and come home when you're ready to.

"We all miss you, love you and are worried about you especially dad, mum, Dava, the kids, grandkids, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.

"You also have a great niece to meet.

"There isn't a day or night that goes by without us thinking and worrying about you, especially me, with our Friday or Saturday nights watching the haunted programmes on YouTube.

"There's so much other stuff that you've missed - please come home or let us know that you're safe, love you sis xxx"

Carol's family said the full-time family carer had been suffering with anxiety and depression for the 18 months prior to her disappearance, which is believed to be connected to the menopause.

Carol is described as a white female, 5ft 4in tall, of slim build and with a pale complexion.

She has brown shoulder length hair, often worn in a ponytail.

On the day she was last seen, Carol was wearing a khaki coloured parka-style coat with grey fur on the hood, blue jeans and black and white speckled trainers.

She was also carrying a black handbag with a shoulder strap.

She is known to frequent Birkenhead and Liverpool city centre and may also have links to Chester.

Anyone who has seen Carol or knows of her whereabouts is asked to DM @MerPolCC, ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, or ring 101 with reference 21000039543.
