Family's heartbreak as mum dies of cervical cancer just one month after being told it's terminal

A family have been left devastated after their beloved mother and grandmother died just one month after being told that her cervical cancer was terminal.

Donna Wallis tragically passed away at a hospice on March 15. She was aged 52.

Her family are now grieving the loss of a woman who 'meant everything to them'. Due to her passing being so sudden, they were unable to pay for the cost of a funeral, Hull Live writes.

That is why they have launched a GoFundMe page in order to give the Cleethorpes -born woman her final journey to 'pink paradise' as that was her favourite colour.

Her daughter, Britney Wallis, 22, said: "Her passing has left a gaping hole in our hearts.

"We hoped to make a million more memories with her but our hearts were shattered so quickly. Mum was so strong despite the pain she suffered.

"Her passing has absolutely devastated us all. And because it was so sudden, we made no plans to arrange a funeral with no savings available.

"It has been a very stressful and emotional time for all of us."

Britney remembers her mum being diagnosed with cancer last year. It was a difficult time for the family as they 'put on a brave face' for Donna.

She said: "She was diagnosed with a cervical cancer in January 2021. We were told she'd only have a year to live.

"She had chemotherapy and radiotherapy and was remarkably given the all clear in October 2021. Our joy was cut very short when she went for another check up to be told the cancer had come back and spread.

"We were then told it was terminal last month (February) which was heartbreaking."

Britney says Donna was the 'best mum' anyone could have asked for.

She said: "I'm only 22 and never thought I'd be saying goodbye to my mum at this age.

"She was a fantastic grandmother to her five grandchildren. They absolutely idolised her and she loved every single one of them with all her heart.

"Mum was was still fighting the cancer and was being so brave. She offered us hope.

"There were some very lovely women at St Andrew's Hospice who looked after my mum. She became very fond of them."

Britney describes just how precious Donna was to those who knew her best and why they have started a fundraiser to help give her the send off she requires.

She said: "She was an amazing person. She was so kind, patient and loving who put her family first.

"She loved everyone and would do anything for people that needed her help.

"My mum loved cooking, crocheting, and spending time with her family. And she was very fond of the colour pink which is why we want to give her the biggest send off inspired by her favourite colour.

"We understand money is tight for everybody, but even the smallest of donations would be greatly appreciated and get us on our way. It will be the biggest of help to our family as we know mum was loved by so many that knew her."

You can donate to Britney's GoFundMe Page here if you wish to support them.
