Family's football fundraiser in memory of much-missed Terry

A family kept the memory of a beloved father and grandfather alive thanks to a second fundraising football match.

Ryan and Danny Flannigan held their first charity match last year after Ryan’s father-in-law Terry McMillan was diagnosed with lung cancer.

And after Terry died in February the brothers decided to put on another game in his memory, raising over £800 despite the poor weather. The money will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie.

Ryan said: “Sadly this year the weather wasn’t on our side and we had to cancel the bouncy castles and a few other bits and bobs.

“We were close to totally cancelling the full day but we decided to go ahead and not give up as my father-in-law never gave up easily.

“We managed to still go ahead with the charity football game and raffle also had Twilight discos provide a DJ.

“Batman also made an appearance with his Batmobile but sadly didn’t have as big a turnout as last year due to the lovely Scottish weather playing its part.

“We greatly appreciate all the people who came and supported us and a special thanks to my lovely wife Laura for making sure the raffle was going well and making the mini family fun day happen and a huge thanks to Reiss for recording the game.

“We managed to get my team and my brother’s team to play against each other and I would like to thank all the players for showing up, es-pecially as conditions weren’t great.

“We have still to collect a little money for signed items but we should have raised over £800.”
