Family's final words to April Jones revealed 10 years after girl's abduction and murder

The family of a five-year-old girl who was murdered a decade ago have shared the heartbreaking final words they said to her.

April Jones was abducted from near her home in Machynlleth, Wales in October 2012, sparking a vast search and a personal appeal from then-Prime Minister David Cameron.

Hundreds of volunteers participated in the search along with various police and rescue teams, but April's body was never located.

Mark Bridger, a 46-year-old local man, was arrested and eventually jailed for her abduction and murder.

Channel 4 has now delved into April’s disappearance, which prompted the biggest manhunt in British police history.

April’s family has opened up about the traumatic experience, including reminiscing about the last time they ever saw the young girl.

April’s mum Coral and her sister Jazz have also shared the final things they said to April, back in 2012 on October 1.

In the first episode of the three-part documentary called The Disappearance of April Jones, Jazz speaks of the last time she spoke to her younger sister, the Sun Online.

The now 27-year-old recalled how it was a light evening - which was strange for October.

Jazz said: "I remember we were just by the back gate, a little bit, just from the back gate.

"I remember saying to April, I gave her a massive hug and I said, 'I’m going now, I’ll see you later, I love you'.

"And she went off to play."

Coral, April's mum, also recalled her last conversation with her daughter in the hours that followed.

The mum-of-three said her daughter had left after playing with friends and she told her to come straight home.

Coral said: "She came back and her friend then had dinner at our house, they wanted to take their friend home on their bikes.”

The mum said she told her girl “no problem” and told her to “come straight back”.

However, April never did come back and the Machynlleth youngster was instead seen getting into a vehicle near her home.

Soon after April’s disappearance, Coral made an emotional appeal for help finding her daughter.

A huge search effort was launched by police in the area around their home, with family, friends and volunteers assisting in the search.

Bridger was arrested the day after April vanished, as he matched the description of the male that eyewitnesses said had spoken to April and drove away with her in his car.

Police officially designated the case a murder inquiry on October 5, 2012 - despite no body being recovered.

DNA evidence found during the search of Bridger’s home convinced police that she had been brutally murdered.

Speaking in the Channel 4 docuseries, Jazz said the family’s suffering would never end.

She also told of how Bridger had attempted to communicate with her before he abducted her younger sister.
