Family’s distress as son’s grave in Co Tyrone targeted with flower theft for the second time

A Co Tyrone family have been left in distress after flowers from their son’s grave were stolen for a second time.

New flowers from Dominic O’Neill’s grave were stolen just hours after they had been laid by family members at Clonoe Graveyard on Monday.

Dominic passed away suddenly in March 2019 aged just 31.

His parents Jacinta and Peter have been left distraught after his grave was targeted for the second time.

West Tyrone MLA Linda Dillon told MyTyrone: “The family are absolutely distraught and this isn’t the first time it has happened.

“It has happened with other graves as well, but the family are now starting to question whether this is a targeted thing.

“I’ve been contacted by a number of families have had flowers and different things taken off their graves as well.

“Another family contacted me today to say that they had stones removed from a grave."

The local parish has agreed to install CCTV cameras within the graveyard in an effort to prevent those responsible from stealing items again.

“This incident definitely happened in broad daylight because the stuff was only put on to the grave Monday morning.

“What’s really distressing the families is that they don’t know who is behind it or what is behind it, but they are really, really distressed.

“I’m calling on anybody who knows anything about it or has any information to please bring that forward, either to the police or the local priest.”
