Family's desperate plea to bring Easterhouse gran home from Spain following deadly heart attack

The family of an Easterhouse pensioner are desperate to bring her home from Spain after a sudden heart attack left her medically brain dead.

Agnes Martin is 74 today and stranded in Benidorm after becoming unwell in front of her 18-year-old grandson William last week, reports the Daily Record.

Known as Aggie, the OAP’s heartbroken family have been told that her brain was starved of oxygen for too long following a heart attack on August 29.

East ender Aggie was on holiday with son William, daughter Karen and grandsons Jack and William - the teenager who was with her at the time called for help and a nurse appeared to perform CPR before an ambulance arrived.

Now, niece Tricia Gowans has set up a fundraising page to fly Aggie home so that loved ones can see her in person.

Tricia told the Record: “It's tragic. She doesn't deserve this. She's a wonderful wee woman and would go out her way to help anyway. She's so popular and well known in the area. Everyone loved her. We're all devastated.

"I can't deal with the thought of never seeing her again. It's heartbreaking.

"We want to get home whilst she's still alive so we can all say a proper goodbye to her. Her son and her grandkids are here and are desperate to see her."

The gofundme page reads: "Last Tuesday while on holiday in Benidorm, this special lady Wee Aggie suddenly took a massive heart attack. She is sadly in a very critical state and is in a coma, only time will tell if Aggie will pull through.

"Everyone who knows Aggie knows she would do anything for anyone ... so please donate to support the family and bring Aggie home in these tragic circumstances."

Devastated niece Tricia added: “It's going to cost £24,000 to fly her home on a medical plane or £15,000 by ambulance. It would take three days in the ambulance and we don't know if she will last that long. At the moment we don't have enough to pay for any of these.

“We are asking for help. We want her home and would really appreciate any help. We're desperate."
