Family's appeal for answers after 'assault' leaves Chipping Sodbury man on life support

The family of a man left on life support following a suspected assault in Chipping Sodbury have appealed to the public for help to find answers.

Anthony Lewis was found with neck and back injuries after ambulance crews were called to Lilliput Court on Wednesday evening (February 12) at around 7.30pm.

It was initially reported that the 54-year-old father had fallen down some steps in the road.

However, he then told paramedics at the scene he had been assaulted and he was soon rushed to Southmead Hospital.

He was placed on life support with a broken back on Thursday evening (February 13), leaving his family desperate to try and establish what exactly happened.

"We want answers. We want to try and find out what happened because it's horrific," a family member told Bristol Live.

"It's a residential road - we imagine there are people who saw or heard something, he would have been shouting out.

"He is a very gentle men, he wouldn't harm a fly.

They continued: "There must be someone who could come forward.

"It was quite early in the evening - the couple who found him were walking their dog."

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has confirmed that police enquiries into the incident are continuing and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

A police spokesman said: "Ambulance made us aware of an incident where a man in his 50s was reported to have fallen down some steps in Lilliput Court, Chipping Sodbury.

"However the man then told them that he had been assaulted and had neck, arm and back pain as a result.

"He was taken to Southmead Hospital where remains in a stable condition.

"Police enquires into the incident are continuing.

"Anyone with information is asked to call us quoting reference 5220035645."
