Family's £140-a-night hotel is old office with 'for sale' signs still in window

A family who booked an idyllic £140-a-night hotel claim they turned up and were put in a former estate agent’s office.

Samantha and Luke Morris say they were hosted in overspill accommodation converted so recently it still had properties for sale in the window.

The couple, who were on their way to the French Alps with their two kids, had booked a two-night stop through Expedia.

They had liked the look of L’Ambroise hotel in Troyes, north-west France.

But Samantha, 47, of Maida Vale, north London, said: “The hotel looked very pretty and we imagined having breakfast in the garden.

“But we ended up in essentially a shop window. It was like booking the Ritz and staying at Foxtons.

“It was clearly just an office they had put some furniture in.”

The family checked out after one night in the building, where they claim the windows did not open and the air conditioning was plumbed in through the letterbox.

They were still charged for both nights and are trying to get a refund from Expedia, saying they believed the stay was mis-sold.

Hotel owner Laurence Moyet told them that because of conditions on late cancellations there was “no way to avoid” being charged for both nights.

Expedia did not comment last night.
