Family-run Nottingham business closes second store in a month due to Covid-19

A family-run business has announced it is closing its second store in the space of one month due to coronavirus pandemic.

Home Curtains Ltd has been operating for more than 30 years in Nottingham, and told customers it was closing one of its shops last month.

The store in Queen's Road East, Beeston, closed on September 29 - making three members of staff redundant.

The company has now announced its other shop, in Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, will also close. This means two more staff members will be made redundant.

The business, which employs more than 40 people, has seen a loss of footfall in store, but is thriving online.

This has led to the decision to close the Sutton-in-Ashfield store on November 7.

A spokesperson for the Mill Shop said: "Due to the continued impact of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to close our store on Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, resulting in the redundancies of two members of staff. The store will close on the 7 November 2020.

"Since the beginning of COVID-19 we’ve seen a dramatic decline in footfall to our store locations.

"However, as more of our customers are shopping online, we’ve seen a really strong increase in demand through our website.

"This growth means we are now investing in different areas of our business; including recruitment to support our digital growth."

The store in Beeston had been open for more than 20 years before closing earlier this week.
