Family-run Glasgow restaurant wins Scotland's best street food award

A family-run Glasgow restaurant has been named the best street food eatery in Scotland.

The Scottish Takeaway Awards 2022 were announced this week and a number of Glasgow businesses scooped up top gongs.

Pakistani Street Food in Govanhill was one of the biggest winners of the night, picking up the Street Food of the Year award. The Victoria Road shop shared the news on social media, saying "dreams come true".

Now in its second year, the Scottish Takeaway Awards took place on July 11 at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow to celebrate the achievements of the industry.

A Spokesperson for the Scottish Takeaway Awards said: “Although in our second year, we are honoured by the fantastic response we have had from the public who was so keen to vote for their favourite takeaways.

“This industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by serving fantastic food, using the best of ingredients.

“The winners are an outstanding example of excellence whose dedication to be the best has made them stand out among the rest.

“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”

  • Best Dessert Takeaway: What the Fudge Desserts (Glasgow)
  • Oriental Takeaway of the Year: Lams Kitchen Chinese Takeaway (Glasgow)
  • Breakfast Takeaway of the Year: The Roll Shop (Glasgow)
  • Restaurant Takeaway of the Year: McMonagles (Clydebank)
  • Best of (Glasgow): Asian Tandoori (Glasgow)
  • Roll Bar of the Year: Ruglen Rolls(Glasgow)
  • Peri Peri Take Away of the Year: Figo’s Peri Peri (Glasgow)
  • Sandwich Shop of the Year: Bite Me Sandwich Bar (Glasgow)
  • Deli of the Year South West: Pietro Deli (Glasgow)
  • Curry Takeaway of the Year North: Saffron Indian(Glasgow)
  • Fish N’ Chips Takeaway of the Year South West: Tony’s Chips Shop Shawhead(Coatbridge)
  • Fish N’ Chips Takeaway of the Year Overall Winner: Tony’s Chips Shop Shawhead(Coatbridge)
