ONE of Glasgow’s oldest family-run restaurants has issued a statement after bosses called in liquidators, rejecting reports it is to close after almost 50 years.
Cafe Gandolfi on Albion Street posted on social media after a petition to wind up the business was presented to Glasgow Sheriff Court on April 13, 2026.
The cafe has been serving customers for almost five decades and has previously counted Scottish stars including Billy Connolly, Annie Lennox, and Paolo Nutini among its visitors since opening in the Merchant City in 1979.
The petition was followed by the appointment of Colin Murdoch of Murray Stewart Fraser Limited as liquidator on July 6, 2026.
Companies House records also show the business address was changed from 64 Albion Street, Glasgow, G1 1NY, to 2.2, 2 Lyle Buildings, Lochwinnoch Road, Kilmacolm, PA13 4LE, on May 13, 2026.
However, in statement, the cafe pushed back on reports that it would be closing.
"Thanks everyone for your lovely messages of concern and support for Cafe Gandolfi," the statement reads.
"Please be reassured that the reporting of our closure is incorrect and we are working our way through this. We are open as normal and look forward to seeing you soon. Seumas and team x."
The restaurant has long been a popular Merchant City spot and is known for its cosy bistro style interior and menu built around Scottish produce.
