Family-run firm are new breadwinners at town bakers

Family bakery business Christie the Baker has taken over Whitburn institution Fishers.

The company has a long history within North Lanarkshire.

Andrew Chisholm is the owner of Christie the Baker is a third generation baker, having completed his apprenticeship at 16, has over 40 years in the baking industry.

They opened the new shop in the bakery building that Fishers Bakery occupied on West Main Street for many years, last May.

They have given the shop an overhaul with a fresh new look whilst keeping our traditional appeal and have over 60 products available to choose from daily that are freshly made in our main bakery in Airdrie.

They also offer hot takeaway food including a school lunch time meal deal. We employ over 60 staff between the three shops in Whitburn, Airdrie and Coatbridge and our Main bakery and are very much part of our communities from big celebrations to fund raisers and afternoon teas to daily staples.

A spokesperson said: "We already feel very welcomed by the local community and participated in our first Whitburn Gala last year and can’t wait to join in again this year.

"We have a good social media presence. You can find us at www.christiethebaker.co.uk and on Facebook and Instagram.

"All our shops have received the Visit Scotland “Taste our Best” Award which we are extremely proud of as it requires strict criteria to qualify, including using as many local raw material suppliers as possible.

"We have won many awards for our products including Best Scottish Bread of the year for our traditional Plain loaf, Best Morning Roll of the year and the World Scotch Pie Championship."
