Family rescued twice after boat capsizes

A family has been saved twice after their rescue boat capsized near the Sackville Ferry Wharf. (AAP)

A family fleeing flooding along a river northwest of Sydney has needed to be rescued twice after the boat evacuating them capsized.

The boat overturned with a family and three SES crews on board as it approached the Sackville Ferry Wharf on Tuesday afternoon.

The family were being ferried out from land surrounded by major flooding along the Colo River.

SES teams were originally trying to move 90 people from the area but have suspended that plan as the flood threat subsides.

Residents along the Colo River are still warned to be ready to leave if the water rises again.

About 18,000 NSW residents have had to leave their homes since last week, with another 15,000 people on stand-by to do the same.
