Family release photo of boy, 5, fighting for life in Italy after car crash

A family have shared a photos of their five-year-old son who is fighting for his life in hospital following a car crash in Italy.

Dominic Boschetti, from Birmingham, was seriously injured after the horror crash which took place while visiting his father and grandparents over Christmas.

His dad gave him life-saving CPR at the scene, helping him survive the terrifying incident during which he technically “died”, BirminghamLive reports.

Now, hooked up to tubes with his favourite cuddly toy by his side, the Bromsgrove schoolboy is being cared for an Italian hospital but remains in a critical condition. His mum, Jordan, 43, has given up her job to be by his side.

A GoFundMe appeal she set up has reached £15,392 thanks to the donations of kind-hearted well-wishers.

In an update given today (Monday) the family said that although Dominic is now off the ventilator, he is still in a critical condition and they were living a "terrible nightmare".

Dominic, from Aston Fields, was with his dad Guiseppe in Italy travelling to see his grandparents when their car was hit by a lorry in Montichiari on December 22 - leaving him on a life support machine in a critical condition with multiple injuries and his dad badly injured.

Despite shattering his legs in the crash, Guiseppe managed to rescue his son from the back seat and perform CPR to save the pupil from Inkberrow First School near Redditch.

Speaking to WorcestershireLive today, his uncle and Jordan's brother, Corin Hetherington, released the hospital photo and said: "Unfortunately there is no improvement yet.

"Dominic's eyes are open, but he doesn't seem there.

"It's like a terrible nightmare."

Corin, from Redditch, who is also out in Italy supporting Jordan, said his sister was now with Dominic all the time.

"Jordan is with Dominic and like a rock. She is being extremely strong and never cries in front of her son. She is amazing," he said.

"He is off the ventilator but he is still in a coma and Guiseppe will be sent to a specialist hospital next week to begin rehabilitation on his shattered legs."

He praised Guiseppe for his bravery and quick-thinking which saved Dominic's life at the crash scene after the boy suffered a cardiac arrest.

"They don't know yet if Guiseppe can walk. I still physically can't believe how he managed to get Dominic from the car with how his legs are," he said.

"Maybe it was adrenaline or the love for his son to protect him , I don't know."

The GoFundMe appeal has a target of £25,000 to help Jordan as she spends months in Italy caring for her son.

It has had donations from across the world - with amounts ranging from £5 to an anonymous one of £1,000.

The family has sent thanks for support and donations from the public at their hour of need.

"There is a wave of support behind us willing Dominic to get better," Corin said. "We want everyone to know how much we appreciate the love and support."

"The amount of love, support and amazing generosity we have received is nothing short of amazing."
