Family recreate favourite Glasgow restaurants at home to stave off lockdown boredom

A family from Glasgow have come up with the perfect way to keep themselves occupied amid the coronavirus lockdown - by recreating visits to their favourite city restaurants.

Nurse Lisa Philliben, husband Thomas and daughter Lilly have brightened up their Friday nights by cooking and serving up their favourite dishes they would normally choose when they head out for a bite to eat at the weekend.

They've already had a go at recreating Nandos and city steakhouse Miller & Carter and plan to have a go at places such as Paesano and Cafe Andaluz in the weeks to come, alongside 9-year-old Lilly's favourite, Loop & Scoop in the west end.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, mum Lisa said: "We came up with the idea on what was our 11th wedding anniversary. Normally we go out somewhere really nice to celebrate and we just decided that we have to do it at home.

"We tried to recreate a meal we had out before, with Lilly playing the role of waitress. And because we had such a good night we thought we'd recreate it every weekend and give us something to look forward to - a trip to our favourite restaurant.

"We are just trying to look at what we've got in the house and use that. We did Nandos and Miller & Carter and I want to give Paesano a try and Cafe Andaluz too - the places we normally enjoy going too.

"Our favourite is Castle Terrace in Edinburgh and restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles but I"m not sure we are ready to attempt to recreate Michelin-starred places yet!"

Lisa and husband Thomas have been uploading photos of their creations online for their friends and family to try and guess what restaurant it is they are 'visiting'.

And so successful have the couple from Barrhead been that even after only two weeks they've had people are asking them for tips and recipes.

"It's given other people ideas too. People have asked for our recipes and sauces. We are getting dressed up and making a pure effort, using our nice crockery and wine glasses. And Lilly has been putting the bow-tie on as the waitress".

What a great idea!
