Family pays tribute to 'loving father and grandfather' following fatal crash in Ashton

A family have paid tribute to a 'loving grandfather' who died after being hit by a lorry in Tameside.

Kenneth Hartley, 72, was knocked down by a HGV on Manchester Road in Ashton-under-Lyne on October 13.

The lorry failed to stop but was later located. Police say the driver is assisting officers with their enquiries.

No arrests have been made.

In a statement released by police Mr Hartley's family described him as a 'a loving father to Andrew and Rebecca and grandfather to Stephen, Emma and Caden'.

They added: "He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Rest in peace Ken."

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Phil Shaw, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Kenneth's family and friends.

"This collision happened in the middle of the day and I am hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who can assist us with our enquiries.

"If you were in the area at the time and witnessed this collision or have any dashcam footage, please do not hesitate to contact police."
