Family pays tribute to Humberside woman Charlotte Kenning who died while crossing road on birthday trip to London

Victim: Charlotte Kenning, 26, from Humberside

This is the first picture of a young woman killed in a road accident in east London on a birthday trip to the capital.

Charlotte Kenning was struck by a Vauxhall Astra while crossing a road near Crossharbour DLR station at 11.45pm on Saturday May 25, the day after turning 26.

She lost her fight for life in hospital 24 hours later.

Ms Kenning, a bartender in a pub in her home town of Goole in Yorkshire, was described by her family as “the loveliest, most beautiful and kindest person”.

Her sister Sophie told the Standard: “She was in London celebrating her 26th birthday with her friends and her boyfriend. She was there for the weekend. We’re completely heartbroken.”

Her father added: “Charlotte was the loveliest, most beautiful and kindest person you could ever wish to know. She will be sadly missed and was much loved by everyone who knew her.”

A fundraising page set up by Miss Kenning’s friends has raised more than £1,260. The money will go towards her memorial service and to support her family.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene. He was not arrested.
