Family pay tribute to nan with "heart of gold" found dead in flat

A family today paid an emotional tribute to a nan with a "heart of gold" who was found dead in her flat.

Tracy McGrath, 59, was discovered in an upper floor flat on Belmont Road, in Anfield, at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, May 12, sparking an urgent emergency response.

Her body was found on a sofa in the living room and it is believed she had died a number of days prior to the alarm being raised.

Police on Thursday said a Home Office post mortem examination had proved "inconclusive," so the incident was being treated as unexplained while enquiries continued.

Today, Tracy's family paid tribute and asked for people to respect the family’s privacy at this "deeply emotional time".

In a statement, Tracy's family said she was often described as having a "heart of gold" and she will be missed by her her daughter, sons, grandchildren and the wider family.

The family said: "Anybody that had ever met Tracy always commented on how friendly and canny she was.

"It was often said that she had a heart of gold. Tracy firstly was a daughter, sister, mother and a grandmother.

"She was much loved and will be clearly missed by her daughter, sons, grandchildren and the wider family.

"Rest in peace. Please respect the family’s privacy at this deeply emotional time."

Earlier this week, tributes were also paid by neighbours who described Tracy as a "nice woman, who was no harm to anyone."

One woman told the ECHO: "Tracey kept herself to herself, she would always say hello to me when I was going past.

"She was really friendly, so easy to speak to. It's awful this has happened."

Five people arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder have now all been released.

A 33-year-old man from Anfield was released on bail, while a 22-year-old man from Anfield, a 30-year-old man from Liverpool, and a 29-year-old woman from Fairfield have been released under investigation.

A 44-year-old man from Anfield arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender was also released under investigation.
