Family pay tribute to loving Scots grandfather killed in horror crash

A 'loving grandfather' has been named as the victim of a fatal crash in Aberdeenshire.

Eric Douglas was driving his Kia Rio car when he was involved the horror smash on the A90 in Stonehaven at around 5pm on Friday.

Emergency services attempted to save the 80-year-old man’s life but he tragically died at the scene. He was the only person inside the car.

A second man had to be cut from the wreckage of the two car collision.

His family have paid tribute to Eric in an emotional statement released through the police .

It read: “Eric was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many who was well known in the local community.

“We are deeply saddened by his death and he will be greatly missed. As a family we respectfully ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

Police Scotland have continued to appeal for information on the fatal crash.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Enquiries into the crash continue and we would urge anyone who witnesses it, and haven’t been in contact with us yet, to do so thorough 101, quoting incident number 2696 of January 10.”
