Family pay tribute to 'loving husband and father' who died after he was hit by a bus

The family of a "selfless" 76-year-old man who died after being hit by a bus in Cardiff have paid tribute to him.

Abdul Koyum, of Penylan, Cardiff, died after being hit by a bus near the Shah Jalal Mosque in Crwys Road at around 12.30pm on March 6.

Mr Koyum, who was well-known within the Bangladeshi community, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales for treatment but seven weeks later died from his injuries.

Paying tribute, Mr Koyum's family described the father-of-one as "an extremely loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother and uncle".

Their statement reads: "He was a selfless person who would do anything to help others.

"He was very well known in the Bangladeshi community. He was the mosque chairperson and was always involved with all activities and events.

"Abdul had his own business which he ran for more than 40 years in Cardiff. Both his current and previous employees and customers have expressed their shock and said what an easy-going person he was."

Mr Koyum's daughter Luma added: "Dad was an extremely kind, generous and helpful person who always had a smile on his face. To lose him in such tragic circumstances has come as a massive shock to the family.

"He will be immensely missed. The emptiness will never be filled. Thank you dad for everything. Miss you so much."

South Wales Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident.

Any witnesses who have yet to give an account or anyone with any dash-cam or mobile phone footage of the incident or the moments before  is asked to contact 101 quoting 2000081850.
