The family of a 76-year-old man killed when crossing the road today paid tribute to him, describing him as "kind and caring".
John McIlwain was walking to the shops when he was struck by a car on Townsend Avenue, Norris Green, last Tuesday, and suffered serious injuries.
He was rushed to hospital, but died two days later.
Today, his brother Norman told the ECHO: "Nobody had a bad word to say about John.
"He was a really colourful guy, who socialised a lot, and everyone who knew him, loved him."
The McIlwain family have embarked on a campaign, urging Liverpool council to improve safety measures on that stretch of Townsend Avenue, where they say there are hardly any safe crossing points.
The 70-year-old said: "My brother was hit by a car near his home while attempting to cross Townsend Avenue at a point between bus stops on either side of the four lane dual carriageway.
"In spite of a 30 mph speed limit, the wide and straight four lane carriageway lends itself to speed and users frequently exceed the limit, without due care.
"Bus stops are located on both sides, necessitating passengers to cross the road, sometimes from behind parked vehicles at busy periods.
"A tragedy of this kind was always a possibility, but very much more likely due to the fact that there are no zebra crossings."
There is no suggestion the driver involved in the collision was speeding, or that any criminal offence was committed.
The driver of the Citroen C3 stopped at the scene of the crash and is assisting police with their enquires.

Mr McIlwain was a dad-of-two, with a grandchild.
He previously worked as an engineer in fabrication and maintenance all his life until retiring.
He lived close to the crash scene, on Gable Court, being raised as a child in Everton.
Brother Norman added: "I spoke to John a week earlier, he was in very good spirits and we were talking about when we were next going to meet up, as I live in south Wales.
"Me asking for that road to be made more safe is something he would have wanted.
"On that stretch of Townsend Avenue, there's no crossing, and bus stops on both sides, you have to dodge the traffic to get across - there's no safe way.

"There needs to be a zebra crossing.
"I would call for crossings at the location of bus stops on Townsend Avenue, in order to help prevent further tragic accidents of this kind and to allay anxiety for pedestrians needing to safely cross this road.
"If such a recommendation could be made, then others will be helped and lives may be saved."
A Liverpool City Council spokesperson said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of John McIlwain at this sad time.
"Whenever a serious road accident occurs, we carry out a review to see if there is any action we can take to improve safety for pedestrians, and this will be carried out in due course.”
Police launched an investigation into the fatality and said: "If you witnessed the collision, or have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the Townsend Avenue area, please get in touch as it may assist our enquiries."
