Family pay tribute to 'fantastic brother' who died after a flat fire in Glossop

The sister of a 34-year-old man who was found dead following a flat fire in Glossop has paid tribute to a 'fantastic' brother.

Brett Wilde was found dead at a property on Green Lane in Hadfield on April 7 by firefighters called to the address.

His sister, Courtney Jones has set up a crowdfunding page to raise funds to give her 'beautiful' brother 'the send off he deserves.'

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Miss Jones said: "Brett was the oldest of four children but at the age of 19 he was diagnosed with type one diabetes.

"He didn't really come to terms what was going on and he became really poorly.

"Over the years he was in and out of hospital and had to have a lot of major operations and was registered blind.

"I woke up on Sunday to be told the devastating news and that there had been a fire at his house.

"He lived on his own but I visited him at least three times a week."

"Brett was a fantastic brother and he was so funny," Miss Jones said.

"He did have depression but towards the end we got him motivated to decorate the house and he was really looking forward to the future."

Brett's sister will complete a 60km walk from Manchester to Southport on Friday 19 April to raise awareness of diabetes - with the proceeds going towards a funeral for her brother.

"Southport was somewhere Brett took me on a day out when I was younger and is filled with happy memories," Miss Jones added.

"I loved my brother so much he meant the world to me.

"I'll  miss him more than he could of ever imagined I feel lost without him and the one last thing I would like to do is give him the send off he deserves."
