The heartbroken family of a 12-year-old boy who died in a tragic incident at an indoor snow sports centre have paid an emotional tribute to a 'son, a brother, a grandson, a cousin and a friend' who will remain 'forever in their hearts'.
Louis Watkiss died at the indoor ski slope on September 24 at approximately 6:40pm.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service and crews from two air ambulances, nothing could be done to save the schoolboy who had suffered 'very serious injuries' and he was pronounced as dead at the scene at Tamworth's SnowDome, reports Birmingham Live.
His family have now paid a heartfelt tribute to a 'studious pupil', a talented saxophone player, football cricket and boxing fan and big brother to George. The family said that they would remember his 'winning smile' and that they 'missed him so much it hurts'.
The tribute reads: “Louis was a son, a brother, a grandson, a cousin and a friend. Louis was a studious pupil who enjoyed learning showing immense curiosity about the world around him.
“Reaching grade 5 at Saxophone through the Royal Academy of Music, his involvement in two jazz ensembles demonstrated his passion for music.
“Louis supported Chelsea and England football clubs and followed England Cricket and Birmingham Bears, regularly watching both sports. Along with cheering on AJ and Tyson Fury for their big heavyweight fights."
The tribute continued: “We are so thankful George had five happy years with his brother, and he will hold dear the memory of Louis' stoic personality. We are eternally grateful for the honour of knowing Louis and the pleasure of raising him.”
“With Louis' passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated; although we will miss him every day, especially his winning smile, Louis will remain forever in our hearts.
“We love Louis very much. Our pride. Our joy. Our love. We miss him so much it hurts.”
Staffordshire Police, which is investigating the incident, said Louis’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers.
The force said: “We would ask everyone to respect the family's right to grieve in private during this extremely difficult time.
“ Staffordshire Police is continuing to investigate the circumstances with support from the Health and Safety Executive.”
The family are urging anyone who witnessed the incident who has yet to come forward to contact the police on 101 or via social media quoting reference 665 of 24 September.
