Family owned Dublin shop announces closure after fifty years in business

A city centre shop has confirmed its upcoming closure to customers after fifty years in business.

Little Folk, found on Meath Street, sold communion attire to the public for over five decades. The family owned business was beloved by many Dubliners preparing for a first Holy Communion in the family.

The sad news emerged online in the past day. It is understood that the owner Colm Cochrane has decided to shut the shop due to his upcoming retirement.

Customers reacted to the news underneath online posts such as The Liberties Dublin on Facebook. They expressed sadness at the loss of another city centre landmark but wished Colm well on his retirement.

One customer wrote: "Thank you to the Cochrane family for all the communion wear they provided to families not only in the Liberties but across the City of Dublin. Let’s not forget the beautiful christening outfits too! Like many, Little Folk will become a part of Dublin History!"

A former staff member of the store said: "Sad Day!!! Worked here for many years and enjoyed every minute! Good luck and enjoy your retirement."

The store's final day of trading was not announced. The store started out as a small shop on Meath Street in 1969, before it quickly became popular amongst locals for its communion-wear.
