Family of young woman seen 'on wrong side' of M61 bridge thank saviours

The family of a young woman discovered ‘on the wrong side of a motorway bridge’ have thanked members of the public who helped her to safety.

Police rushed to Four Lane Ends in Bolton on Monday, where a young woman was found ‘on the wrong side of a bridge’ over the M61.

By the time officers arrived, two members of the public were already ‘talking to the woman and reassuring her’.

Police - along with the woman’s family - have praised the good Samaritans for intervening, ensuring that the woman could be taken to safety and put in the care of hospital medics.

Officers did not take the names of the pair on the night, but have put out a message thanking them on behalf of the police and family.

Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton North neighbourhood team said: “On March 15, at approximately 8pm, officers from A Relief response attended to a vulnerable young female on the wrong side of the motorway bridge near to Four Lane Ends.

“When officers attended, there were already two members of the public talking to the female and reassuring her.

“Thanks to the actions of those two members of the public, officers were able to remove the female from the bridge safely and they continued to assist placing her in a police vehicle so she could be taken to hospital.

“Unfortunately officers were unable to get the details of the members of the public and would like to say thank you for all their help and the family of the female would also like to express their gratitude for their actions on the night.”

The ‘heartwarming story’ has been met with positivity on social media.

One Facebook user said: “Thank you to everyone involved. A little kindness goes a long way. Sending love to the lady and her family.”

Another added: “Nice to read something like this. Restores a bit of faith in fellow man.”
