Family of young Edinburgh mum tell of agonising wait for answers after house fire horror

The devastated family of Rosie Atkins have told of their agonising wait for answers over her death.

Last year, Rosie, a mum-of-three, was died in a blaze at Oxgangs Park, Edinburgh.

Her family have been left desperate to find out the truth as to what happened that night, but have been told it could be months before all of the reports are returned.

Just over two months after the blaze, Jack Atkins, Rosie's older brother, has spoken of the heartbreak they face, as the family order a headstone for her grave.

After launching a community fundraiser, the stone will now be placed at her plot in Craigmillar cemetery.

However, Jack, 30, explained that it will take more than this to give them the closure they need.

"We all just want answers", he said.

According to Jack, Rosie's death certificate has stated that she suffered "complications" owing to a domestic house fire, but it could be months before toxicology tests results are available.

Speaking previously about the incident at a friend's house, he told of Rosie's "horrific fear" of fire.

Leaving behind her three sons Joshua, 14, Mylo, eight, and six-year-old Charlie, he stated that their family have been left heartbroken and confused.

He stated: "Rosie posted a Facebook story less than an hour before she died saying how much she loved Charlie - it's just all so weird."

Two months on from the fire, Rosie's three sons are now living with family, but Jack explained that they are still finding it incredibly difficult to cope with the loss, adding:

"We take the boys to see her grave and Charlie says he wants to dig mummy up and take her home."

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital after the fire which the police are treating as non-suspicious.
