Family of tragic young Scots farmer who took own life urges others to speak out for help

The family of a young Scots farming enthusiast who sadly took his own life hope their tragedy will help encourage others who are struggling to speak out. David Baxter, from Maud, Aberdeenshire, passed away suddenly on November 28 leaving his friends and loved ones in complete shock.

The 21-year-old’s brave mum Sharon has paid tribute to her "dear boy" and revealed plans for a year-long Munro climbing mission to raise funds for a host of charities close to their hearts, Aberdeen Live reports.

Writing on a GoFundMe page in David’s memory, mum Sharon said: "28th November 2022, was the day that changed our lives forever, when we lost our dear boy to suicide. David was such a lovely young man, just 21 years old.

"He was so kind, loving, such a pleasure to be around, great wit, loved his family and of course farming. He adored his border collie, Millie, she would always be by his side.

"David's passing came as an immense shock to us all and everyone that knew him. We would like to turn this tragedy into something positive and encourage others to reach out & speak to someone, anyone.

"So we thought we would climb one Munro a month over the year 2023 and raise some much needed funds for the following chosen charities." Sharon added: "We love you David and always will. Gone far too soon, but never ever gone from our hearts."

The money raised will go to RSABI, a charity that helps and supports farmers and The World Suicide Prevention Project, a north-east charity raising funds to buy a centre for those struggling.

Funds will also be given to Sight Scotland, a group that supports people of all ages with sight loss across the country. To donate to the fund, please click here.
