Family of tragic teen Azzam Raguragui thank community for their support in emotional statement

The family of stab victim Azzam Raguragui today thanked their community for their support.

Azzam was fatally stabbed in Finsbury Park in Dundrum, Dublin on Friday evening.

It is believed he was returning from prayers in a local mosque when he got in an argument in the park.

In a moving statement on Monday, Azzam’s family thanked everyone who has helped them so far during a very difficult time for the family.

They said: “The past few days have been very difficult and challenging for our family.

“An Garda Síochána are leading in the investigation to uncover the truth behind our son Azzam Raguragui’s murder and we are resting our faith in the Irish Justice system to hold the perpetrator(s) to account.

“We are grateful for the community support we have received.

“At this critical time we would like to request some space and privacy to allow us to grieve as a family.

“Abderrahmane Raguragui and Hajiba Elouaddaf.”

Azzam, who was described as a friendly, cheerful young man, was a GAA fan who hoped to become an entrepreneur.

Known to his pals as ‘Azzy’, he was well known in the Dundrum area.

His cousin Younes Talibi posted on a GoFundMe page : “My dear cousin Azzam, you’ll be highly missed.

“May Allah grant him the highest place in paradise, forgive his sins and give strength to his family and friends.”

Other pals took to social media to pay their respects to the young man.

One wrote: “In a better place now Azzy,” while another posted: “Rip Azzy. Fly high angel.”

Azzam was treated at the scene by emergency services before being rushed to St James’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

It is understood from initial enquiries that a number of people were in the vicinity at the time.
