Family-of-three rescued from dangerous swell on Irish sea after being stranded on fishing boat

A family of three had to be rescued from their fishing boat on Saturday after becoming stranded in the Irish sea.

The family got into difficulty near Lambay Island off the coast of North Dublin after their fishing boat encountered mechanical problems.

The rescue was made by Howth RNLI who said there was a two to three metre swell in the water when they retrieved the family.

Howth RNLI Second Coxswain Ian Sheridan assessed the situation and transferred the 2 young members of the family aboard the Lifeboat and a decision was taken to take the fishing boat in tow to the safety of the nearest port of Malahide marina.

A statement from Howth RNLI said: "We were delighted to help the 3 people this evening, they all had their lifejackets and safety gear.

"They dropped anchor and called for help as soon as they encountered engine difficulties, we were happy to assist."
