Family of teen fined £10,000 for coronavirus house party refuse to pay penalty

The family of a teen fined £10,000 for a house party which broke coronavirus restrictions are reportedly refusing to pay the penalty.

Police found between 80 and 100 people at the bash in Wiltshire last month, although the 18-year-old organiser claims it spiralled out of contorl.

He told his parents he only invited a few friends around while they were away but things escalated after the event was shared on social media.

His dad said the teen was "utterly stupid", however he insists drunk gatecrashers descended on the home and has decided to fight the case in court.

Police hit the family with the maximum £10,000 fine after attending the home in Devizes, Wiltshire, at around midnight on September 4.

Officers asked for the bonanza to end and even urged revellers to leave, however the youngsters ignored them.

They then fined the organiser and forced the party-goers out of the property.

The family have now filed a complaint with the police and are in contact with a solicitor, according to the Times.

The teen's dad, who is willing to take the case to the Supreme Court, told the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: "He was utterly stupid.

"He ignored our instructions and the government advice. He is very chastened. But they were gatecrashed.

"This could go to the Supreme Court as to whether you can legally impose a criminal penalty when the majority of people were gatecrashers."

At the time of the party, gatherings of more than 30 people indoors were forbidden.
