Family of Scot missing in Ibiza worried sick as dad flies out to join search

Spanish police have started searching for a Scots holidaymaker missing in Ibiza for two days.

Dad Johny Doherty, 28, from Rutherglen vanished from a rented villa where he was staying during a house birthday party for a friend.

Sister Jordana admitted today she is beside herself with worry as she urged anyone with information to contact police.

She said: “We have reported him missing to the Civil Guard in Ibiza as well as in the UK.

“Police started searching for him on Tuesday near the villa where he was staying and the searches have been extended today.

“My dad has also flown out to help.”

She added: “My brother was last seen between around 6am and 10am on Monday at the villa where he was staying near the town of Santa Eulalia.

“There was a party going on at the villa which had been organised for a friend’s birthday.

“It was assumed he had just gone to bed but when the other people at the villa started getting calls from the UK asking them to check up on my brother, they discovered his bed hadn’t been slept in.

“He’d been drinking but he’s the sort of person who loses it completely when he’s drunk alcohol and is normally compos mentis.

“He doesn’t appear to have warned anyone he was going to leave the villa for whatever reason so we’re very confused at the moment.”

Family and friends are increasingly worried about missing Johny Doherty (Facebook)

Insisting there was nothing to indicate her brother’s disappearance might be voluntary, she said: “We believe he may have changed into some jogging trousers and a T-shirt before he was last seen but it’s all a bit confusing at the moment.

“Spanish police at first said they thought he might be out partying somewhere and we’d have to wait when we first tried to report him missing, but they started taking things seriously yesterday and today there’s a search being coordinated across four stations.

“The villa where he was staying is near to the Destino Pacha Ibiza Resort.”

Meanwhile friends have taken to Facebook to appeal for help in the search.

Posts have been shared hundreds of times and reveal he had no money or phone with him when he was last seen on the holiday island.

Stephanie Murphy pleaded: "Please share- Johny has been missing in Ibiza for two days with no phone or money. This is extremely out of character and we are all worried sick.

"If anyone has seen or heard from Johny any info at all please message me."

And pal David Alexander's appeal urged holiday makers on the island to help in the search.

His post adds: "Please if anyone in Ibiza has any known whereabouts of Johny Doherty can they contact me ASAP please."

No-one from the Civil Guard in Ibiza was available for comment this afternoon afternoon.
