Family of missing William Hay informed after body found near cliffs in Banff

The family of a missing man have been informed after a body was found in Aberdeenshire.

Police Scotland made the discovery by the cliffs near Macduff, Banff, at 11.15am on Monday.

The family of missing 35-year-old have been informed, however formal identification has yet to take place.

William was last spotted leaving a taxi after it had been involved in a minor crash at around 3.10am on Sunday, December 8.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police can confirm that around 11.15am today - Monday, 30 December, 2019 - the body of a man was found by the cliffs near Macduff, Banff.

"Formal identification has yet to take place however the next-of-kin of 35-year-old William Hay, who was reported missing from Banff on Saturday, 7 December, have been informed.
