Family of Scots man missing in Munich beg German police to search river

The family of a missing Scot have launched a petition urging cops to search a river in Germany in a bid to find their loved one.

Gareth Hicks disappeared after leaving the Blitz nightclub in Munich during the early hours of February 23.

The 32-year-old then shared a selfie on Facebook but no trace of the Forfar man has been found since.

Brother Stuart, 37, has launched a petition urging the cops to search the Isar River despite not believing that his body will be found there.

Gareth Hicks, 32, recently moved to Germany from his home in Forfar (Facebook)

He said: “This is a petition to have the river Isar searched by the police in Munich, who would rather wait 8 weeks as Gareth Hicks’ body could potentially float to the surface on its own.

“We don’t believe he is in there and would like this ruled out ASAP. I don’t believe any one in our shoes would either.

“Please sign our petition to help put pressure on the Munich police to act. Help bring my brother home for Mother’s Day .

"Your help is very much appreciated.”

The petition follows an emotional video appeal made by Stuart, who is being helped by the Lucie Blackman Trust , where he directly spoke to his missing brother.

He said: “Gaz, your whole family is looking for you and friends. We’re all really worried.

"If you feel that you’re unsafe in any way just send a sign, we can protect you.

“We're here, we love you and we just want you home. Send any sign whatsoever.

“If anyone else has any information at all that may help us locate him, find him, bring him home, please contact the Lucie Blackman Trust they’re handling things on behalf of the family.”

Gareth, who is described as a “kind, gentle soul”, had recently moved to Munich from his home in Forfar, Angus and speaks very little German.

He is 6ft 2in tall, of a medium build with short, dark wavy hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a maroon jumper and jeans.

Lucie Blackman Trust Chief Executive, Matthew Searle MBE said: “Munich is a busy, popular city and a huge amount of people would have been out on that Saturday night.

Gareth posted a selfie on Facebook after leaving the nightclub (Facebook)

“Were you? Did you go to Blitz that night? Have you seen Gareth since that night? Please come forward with any information, no matter how small it seems.

“It could be the vital intelligence we need to bring Gareth safely home to his family”.
