Family of missing nurse assistant ‘desperately worried’

PA Media

A missing senior nurse assistant is believed to have disappeared on her journey home from work in London, according to police.

Petra Srncova, who works at Evelina London Children’s Hospital in Westminster, was reported missing last week by a colleague.

The Metropolitan Police said the 32-year-old was last seen in Camberwell in south London, where she lives, after catching two buses home on the last Sunday of November.

“She is from the Czech Republic so she doesn’t have her family here,” Harriet Harman, the local MP, told The Independent as she was putting posters up around the local area on Saturday.

“And therefore it is really important we raise awareness about the fact she is missing and ask everyone to help the police to help find her.”

The Met said officers are “growing increasingly concerned” over her disappearance in an appeal for information in the search for the missing hospital worker.

“She is over here working for our NHS,” Ms Harman told The Independent near where Ms Srncova lives in Camberwell. “I feel a particular responsibility. We’ve got to try and help find her.”

A man has been arrested in connection with her disappearance and remained in custody as of Saturday morning. The Met said it would not be releasing any more information about the arrest at this time.

Ms Srncova left the central London hospital where she works at 7.45pm on 28 November.

It is thought she took money out of a cashpoint before getting on a bus heading to Elephant and Castle.

The 32-year-old, who was born in the Czech Republic, is believed to have changed buses as she continued her journey home to Camberwell.

She was last seen in this area of south London just after 20.22pm, according to the Met.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucy O’Connor said on Saturday: “Petra’s disappearance is very out of character and we’re becoming really concerned for her now.”

“Her family in the Czech Republic are also very worried about her and just want to know where she is.”

Ms Harman said in Camberwell on Saturday: “Her relatives in the czech republic are distraught, they haven’t heard from her. Nobody has.”

The Labour MP and local councillors handed out posters appealing for information over Ms Srncova’s whereabouts to local businesses and residents in the area around the missing woman’s home near Camberwell Green on Saturday.

Dora Dixon-Fyle, councillor for the Camberwell Green ward, said: “I think as each day passes, we grow increasingly concerned for her whereabouts. If you know of anything where she could be, please get in contact with the police.”

She said Camberwell Community Council are speaking with constituents about how they feel about safety in public spaces in the area “to make sure the area is safer”.

She told The Independent the council was encouraging women to walk where they live and point our to her and a local female police offer where they feel unsafe in the area. A “walk and talk” scheme - launched in several London boroughs - allowed women to do this with officers, she said.

Anyone who has seen Ms Srncova or has information about her whereabouts has been asked to contact police. They can call 101 or tweet @MetCC referencing 21MIS037753.
