Family of missing man informed after body found in Lanarkshire

A man's body has been recovered from water near a Lanarkshire street.

Emergency services were called to Avon Water just off of Glen Avenue in Larkhall on Sunday night.

The body of a man was recovered at about 10.10pm.

Police confirmed enquiries were ongoing to identify him, however the family of a local missing man have been notified about the discovery.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10pm on Sunday, 1 August, the body of a man was recovered from water near to Glen Avenue, Larkhall.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man at this time.

"There would not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

“The family of a local missing man has been informed regarding this recovery.”

Jamie Waugh, 29, from Larkhall has not been seen since the end of January this year.

He was last seen around 4am on Sunday, 31 January, 2021, when he left an address in Glen Avenue in the town.

Jamie was reported missing to police a week later on Sunday, 6 February.
