Family of missing girl, 15, fear she was 'brainwashed' before she got in strange car

The family of a missing girl fear she may have been brainwashed after CCTV showed her getting into a stranger's car.

Savannah Seymour-Hopkinson, 15, disappeared this morning from the Goldthorpe area of Barnsley, south Yorkshire.

She told her aunt, Maxine Spencer, about a "new friend" that she had met  online, reports YorkshireLive.

Maxine said in the days before her disappearance Savannah would keep
asking her to provide "cover stories" so that she could leave her
dad's house.

It is the second time in as many weeks that she has attempted to leave home, Maxine said.

"Someone's taken her, we know that, she kept saying 'someone is going to take me and I'm going to have a good life' so I think somebody's brainwashed her," Maxine said.

Savannah's worried family think she may now be in Sheffield.

Savannah is described as small for her age and, though she is 15,
looks much younger - around 12 or 13.

CCTV apparently shows Savannah scaling the side of her house, to get
out from a top-floor window

She is then seen running away towards what her family suspect was a waiting car.

Maxine said: "Someone's taken her, we know that. She kept saying "someone is going to take me and I'm going to have a good life" so I think somebody's brainwashed her.

"And she'd made some new friend on social media but all we know is it's an Asian girl and we don't know her name. We don't even know if she's involved, we just know she's a new friend."

South Yorkshire Police were contacted for comment.
